8월에 찬바람이 부는 곳에 와 있는 것도 나쁘지만은 않은 일.

BBC에서 새로 시작한 TV Series “Sherlock” (created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat). 어제가 첫 방송이었는데 운이 좋게도 오늘 우연히 발견했다. 일단 official trailer:

Steven Moffat이라는 이름이 익숙하다 했더니 Coupling과 Doctor Who를 만든 사람이었고, Mark Gatiss도 The League Of Gentlemen, Doctor Who, Crooked House에 참여하는 등 쟁쟁한 작가진을 자랑한다.

파일럿 에피소드를 본 순간 오랜만에 보물을 찾았다는 느낌이었다. 셜롬 홈즈, 왓슨 박사, 모리아티 교수, 베이커가 221B번지 등 고전적인 세팅을 대부분 가져온 대신에, 스마트폰으로 모바일 인터넷을 사용하고 위치 추적을 하는 등 현대의 최첨단 기술들이 사용된다. 그런 만큼 셜록 홈즈는 터프함을 줄이고 nerdiness(괴짜스러움)을 극대화한 이미지로 표현되었다. (적어도 주인공이 권투를 잘 할 것 같이 생기지는 않았다.) 영화에서 로버트 다우니 주니어의 이미지와도 매우 다른 느낌이다.

셜록 홈즈라는 이름과 221B Baker St.의 주소만으로도 가슴이 뛰는 사람으로서 객관적인 판단을 내리기는 힘들지만, 적어도 흔하디 흔한 다른 범죄 수사 드라마들과는 달리 아주 “쿨한” 시리즈가 될 것임은 확실하다.
